Last month, the CSI team kicked off this year’s trade show lineup at MakeUp in Los Angeles. It was a great event and a fantastic opportunity to meet with many new and existing customers doing exciting things in the beauty space. From small indie companies to mass, large-scale prestige brands.
As the beauty industry grows rapidly, events like MakeUp in 2024 have become the go-to place for industry insiders to gather and exchange ideas. Here’s our overview of everything heard and seen at MakeUp in 2024 to help you stay up-to-date with the latest trends:
What were the highlights for CSI?
- Most importantly for us, the show was a terrific opportunity to showcase some of CSI’s exciting capabilities. Our booth featured our in-mold frosted (IMF) jars and caps, in-mold labeled (IML) caps, and our in-house decorated jars, caps and sealing discs with custom glitter, debossed logos and high-quality silk-screen printing options.
- There was a lot of excitement at the CSI booth around our 89mm in-mold labeled (IML) Lids. IML, CSI’s most premium decoration technique, pre-prints the label onto a thin polypropylene layer, places it into the injection molding process, and fuses it with the lid. This results in a high-end, photo-quality finish that doesn’t scratch or peel away, and a mono-material package that allows for one-step recycling.
- Coming in second for our most talked about capability was our in-mold frosted (IMF) jars and caps. In the beauty industry, matte finishes are usually a secondary process created through spray, but our high-quality IMF jars and caps use texture within the mold itself to create a seamless matte finish. This means the packaging and finish don’t scratch or deteriorate over time, resulting in a high-end look that attendees naturally gravitated towards.
- Beyond our premium finishes and stand-out decoration options, attendees loved that we create and decorate all our products here in the USA.
What was the sustainability conversation?
It was great to share our commitment to using post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in our jars. All of our jars can be created using up to 100% PCR. Brands consistently requested mono-material and recyclable packaging and were excited to hear that most of our catalog is made from widely recycled, 100% polypropylene (PP) jars.
What beauty category was most popular?
The body care trend of the last year continues to be strong. This “skintification” movement is about consumers treating the skin on their scalp and body with the same care as their face. It’s led brands traditionally known for skincare products to release hair and body products that utilize the same traditional skincare ingredients. And for us, it continues to lead to a significant uptick in brands looking for packaging suited to these new scalp and body scrubs.
Any new or emerging categories?
We noticed many brands at the show looking for packaging related to their CBD and hemp extract products, including beauty products and health supplements. Health and wellness companies that offer functional beauty products were prevalent during the show, which speaks to the huge wellness movement happening in the industry.
